FrequentlyAskedQuestions
How long should I stay in Italy?
Our wedding events will take place on 3 separate days. Beyond that, your trip itinerary is entirely up to you! We’ve found about a week to be an excellent length in Italy.
What’s the actual wedding date? Do I need to attend all 3 days?
Our ceremony and reception will take place on September 16, 2025. Events on the 15th and 17th are optional, though we’d love to see you there.
Can I bring my kids?
No. This is an adults-only celebration.
Any advice on US → Italy travel?
There are no direct flights from the US to Florence, but many options connecting through a European hub. Many carriers offer connections through cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, or Rome.
Another option (and what Molly and Devin are doing) is to fly directly to Rome and take a high-speed train to Florence. You can also fly to Milan and take a similar train from there.
Do I need a passport to visit Italy?
Yes. If you’re reading this and don’t have your passport yet, it’s time to head over to the State Department website and start your application. If you do have a passport, check that it has at least 6 months' validity beyond your return date. For example, our departure date from Italy is September 18, 2025, so our passports need to be valid until at least March 18, 2026.
Do I need a visa to visit Italy?
No, visas are not required for Americans to visit Italy. For your return to the US, we recommend that you download the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app. This app, created by US Customs, lets you digitally submit your reentry information (passport and customs declarations) when you land and often skip the long immigration/customs lines at the airport.
How will I get around once in Italy?
Within central Florence:
- The city center is very walkable
- Taxis can be caught at designated stands or called by a hotel or restaurant on your behalf (they can't be hailed on the street)
- Uber Black is available but limited (and expensive)
For our wedding events:
- We will provide shuttles to and from the welcome party (for those staying outside of Florence proper)
- We will provide shuttles to and from the wedding day (from Florence and locations closer to the villa)
- We will provide shuttles to and from San Gimignano for the day trip (from Florence and locations closer to the villa)
We'll send specific transportation details for the wedding day closer to the date, including shuttle pickup times and locations!
For other adventures:
- High-speed trains make day trips to Rome, Milan, or smaller surrounding towns easy
- The Florence airport is 15 minutes from the city center by taxi
Are credit cards accepted? Should I bring Euros with me?
Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Italy, particularly in Florence and tourist areas, though we recommend bringing some Euros for small purchases, local vendors, or places off the beaten path. Most ATMs in Italy accept foreign cards, but you'll get the best exchange rate by ordering Euros from your bank before your trip.
Pro tip: Visa and Mastercard are more widely accepted than American Express, and many smaller establishments may have minimum purchase requirements for card payments.
What is formal attire?
Formal attire for our wedding includes suits with ties, or midi-length to long dresses. We encourage elegant evening wear that suits the beautiful Tuscan setting while ensuring your comfort for both indoor and outdoor portions of our celebration.
Can I stay at the venue?
Rooms at the venue have already been reserved. But our planner has shared several recommendations in and around Florence.

- Hotel Plaza Lucchesi
